Founded in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, Nike is one of the most successful sporting goods companies in history. Rebranded in 1971, the company is also one of the most recognisable labels in the world. Nike employs over 44,000 people worldwide, and was one of the pioneers of outsourcing manufacturing plants in the 1980s. Since the 1990s, the company has also established retail stores alongside its manufacturing division. Recent innovations include the FuelBand, a bracelet that measures physical activity each day, and the Flyknit Racer, featherlight shoes that feel more like socks.
